ADULT KALI

Kali is the ancient martial art of the Philippines that focuses on the ability to transition from fighting with weapons to empty hands fluidly. Kali is unique in its emphasis on fluidity, improvisation, and practicality. It is these aspects which make it an effective and intellectually stimulating martial art. 

Students in our program learn strategies, and techniques that allow them to become proficient in the use of single stick, double sticks, stick and dagger, and edged weapons as well as one of the most complete empty-hand systems in martial arts. Students of all levels train together. This program is open to teens and adults ages 16 and up. Classes will be held both indoors at the studio or outdoors at various locations. 

 

     REQUIRED CLASS GEAR:

  • safety glasses

  • bare feet (indoor training)

  • shoes (outdoor training)

  • 2 rattan sticks

  • 2 rubber knives

  • safety glasses

FOOT WORK

In Bag Work class, students increase power, timing and footwork by building step-by-step combinations on the heavy bag using varied training intervals and intensities.

AGILITY

In Pad Work class, students of all skill levels work with rotating partners and work to develop offensive and defensive combinations using Thai pads.

TECHNIQUE

In Clinch Technique class, students of all skill levels learn standing grappling techniques, employing elbows, knees, and throws.

KALI

Intermediate and advanced students move with rotating partners, practicing light contact technical sparring (60-70% power) with an emphasis on technique development, skill, and control.
